The name Tammy Pax was born 6 years ago by chance and evolved into the drag artist today ( me ). Never in my life did I think that I would be entertaining holiday makers in drag, it started by chance helping out a friend in another cabaret bar called Ricky’s in the yumbo centre, it was only meant to be a one off night, but turned out to be a more permanent arrangement.As Tony my partner aka Miss Dinah Might said we came to Gran Canaria 12 years ago and I fell in love straight away, and I knew that I wanted this to be my home, the rest is history, I came here for a quite relaxing life, but it was not to be.
I started to work 6 night a week and to be honest I loved every minute of it, working in drag and entertaining holiday makers is more like a social life than a job, a year ago I had to stop working for 6 months due to thrombosis in my leg and even though some people would love 6 months off from work, I was so miserable, bored and depressed, I couldn’t wait to get my heels back on.
Over the last 6 years we have met some fantastic people and many of them keep in contact via telephone or internet and have become friends. It was hard to understand the impact we have on people and likewise the impact people have had on us.
After running my own businesses in England, and wanting to have just a quite life out here, it was never to be. Tony and I had talked about our own business when we first came to Gran Canaria but as Tony has said things took a different turn and things were put on hold.Tony and I had different ideas, he wanted to spend 6 months here and 6 months in England but I wanted to stay permanently as every time we went back I missed Gran Canaria so much, as time went on I got my own way lol, the dream that Tony and I had, became a reality when Andi Martine and James looked at a large business premises in January 2008, we all went to look at it, it was scary to think that we could do this, turn a restaurant with a full working kitchen into a showbar.
After a long and drawn out negotiation period we eventually signed contracts, it was ours.
We all looked at each other and said we have done it now, our dream was becoming a reality, and after a lot of hard work, sweat and tears, and I mean tears, Sparkles Showbar was born, with a pre launch party on the 2nd of June 2008. We were taken back by the amount of good luck wishes, flowers, my god it looked like a florists shop. We did not expect what happened that night would have so much impact personally and emotionally on all of us. So many friends and bar owners attended, it was unbelievable, what a night to remember. And Sparkles Showbar has grown from strength to strength, as a team the four of us work well together and all have the same goal, which is to give our customers the highest quality of entertainment and enjoyment possible.
